In its 2024 edition, SET Expo repeats its success and attracts more than 21 thousand visitors, a number 54% higher than last year
AI applications, the impact of streaming and the arrival of TV 3.0 are highlights of the event
São Paulo, August 2024 – More than 21,000 visitors passed through the halls of SET EXPO, the largest technology and business event in the Media and Entertainment sector in Latin America, between August 19 and 22. Held for the first time in the Distrito Anhembi, the event presented and discussed the main innovations in the sector, such as the transformations resulting from the popularization of streaming, the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and the arrival of TV 3.0.
“SET EXPO 2024 exceeded expectations in every way. The new location helped attract a record audience, with a large participation of young people interested in the latest technology and business developments in the sector. Both the trade show and the congress highlighted topics of great impact for society as a whole. It is a great pleasure to disseminate information and contribute to the development of the market and the professionals who work and will work in it”, says Carlos Fini, president of SET.
The 34th Media and Entertainment Technology and Business Congress featured a schedule of over 70 panels over the four days of the event, bringing together 200 speakers and over 3,500 congress attendees. The trade show occupied a total area of 10,000 m², bringing together 500 exhibiting brands. The official opening was attended by the Minister of Communications of Brazil, Juscelino Filho, the superintendent of Anatel, Vinicius Caram, and other authorities.
“As important as the current issues, which were undoubtedly widely discussed in the congress panels, I would like to draw attention to the business opportunities that were initiated there, and to the strengthening of relationships between people, the famous ‘networking’, that the event provided. The layout offered many areas for conversations and information sharing. It was a significant advance and will be even greater at SET Expo 2025”, says Fini.
The audience also approved the changes made in this edition. “The trade show is enriching,” says Rafaela Ferreira Bachie de Oliveira, Production Platform Analyst at Globo. Tozinho Branco, CEO of Planet Music, highlighted the opportunity to close deals. “The trade show is spectacular, very much in line with what I need. I’m happy to have come and ready to do a lot of business,” he said. Finally, Sunnye Rose Coelho Bezerra de Souza, Manager of SP Eletrônica, stated that “every year, the event grows more and more.”
The Congress
Held in four rooms and in the auditorium of the Distrito Anhembi, the panels were divided into themes. Artificial Intelligence and Streaming appeared for the first time as separate subjects, joining TV 3.0, Connectivity, Security, Media Consumption and Production, Business, Radio, Regulatory and Academic. Workshops were also part of the program.
The guest speakers included representatives from leading companies such as Globo, Google, SBT, Record, Bandeirantes, Livemode (CazéTV), Embratel, Intelsat and entities such as Abert – Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters and Abratel – Brazilian Association of Radio and Television.
The list of topics included, for example, business opportunities and technology challenges in the current scenario, where screens are more connected, such as the different forms of content distribution.
The arrival of TV 3.0, a new model of free and open TV that will be implemented in Brazil, was one of the highlights. While Anatel is expected to conduct studies on the channeling of TV 3.0 by December 31, 2024, some tests have already been carried out indicating the potential of this new TV, such as higher resolution and interactivity.
The debates also addressed the change in content consumption with the popularization of streaming. Renard Jenkins, president of SMPTE, highlighted that we live in a cyclical process, where it is always necessary to meet customer demands. Faced with some skepticism in the industry, he believes that “the transmission process is not dead, it is moving to a more valuable place”.
The transformation in content creation, with the generation of images and videos, caused by AI and the possible impacts on journalistic production were also addressed. The same tool, on the other hand, can help verify the authenticity of content, monitor distribution to ensure credit and remuneration for creators.
